He grew up surrounded by swords and was taught both techniques by his father, himself a swordsman, learning the thousand-year-old physical manipulation methods. From there, he developed he method of mindfulness🧘🏻, actively disseminating the spirit of Bushido and Zen philosophy – a source of pride for Japan – to the world. At the Ninja Samurai Dojo in Asakusa, Tokyo, Zen Takai has taught more than 2,000 people as part of his mission to maintain the heritage of samurai culture in modern times.
The western perception of samurai has been influenced by popular culture 🎥 which misrepresents them only as skilled warriors. In fact, throughout Japan’s history – especially the Edo period – samurai were highly respected leaders who studied 🧑🏻🎓 art, philosophy, literature, and also served as politicians and teachers. As martial artists, they exhibit more than physical prowess and technique – the key is to always remain calm and controlled. 💡 The ideal way to approach a fight is to avoid it in the first place.
