Sakari Nikinmaa is a life science entrepreneur and scientist looking for ways to improve people’s lives! In his research, he has investigated biophysical interactions of proteins and lipids, studied viral evolution and mutations, and most recently the inactivation of bacteria, viruses, and fungi by breakthrough light-activated solutions. His work is driven by biological interaction linked to systemic effects be it a misfolding of proteins in Alzheimer’s disease, the role of virus protein binding structure in the onset of virus epidemic or the connection between oral bacteria burden and systemic diseases.
Sakari is leading a promising health tech startup focusing on light-activated antibacterial solutions against chronic infections. Their first product LUMORAL – a precision-made, easy to use dental care kit for home use, utilizes patented dual-light aPDT technology to selectively remove pathogenic bacteria from teeth surface and gumline without negatively affecting oral bacteria balance.
